Hot Take: Diagnosing Issues after Trauma/Stress

rebuild. renew. remineralize

Is this a hot take?

Hi there Reader,

I genuinely think it’s offensive to diagnose people with something when it’s caused by trauma.

"You were abused your whole childhood? You have xyz wrong with you now."

"You dealt with chronic, unrelenting stress for several decades straight? Now you have this unrelated diagnosis."

Like... where's the connection here? Not that a medical doctor would ask any real questions before diagnosing you and prescribing you some medication, but imagine if they did?

Imagine living your entire life in a hypervigliant state, trying to keep everyone else around you happy because that's what felt safe, and then a doctor goes, "Oh you are like this because you have autism and ADHD and you likely always have." Not a peep about how you become this way because your environment is unsafe and the people around you didn't truly take care of you. Just, "there's something WRONG with YOU."

So now we have all these late-diagnosed adults going around saying, "I've always been like this, I can't believe I wasn't diagnosed as a child!" And they still don't put 2 and 2 together because if you DO, you can actually heal and improve your health. And the medical system can't have that!

Medication isn't going to resolve your years and years of nervous system dysfunction.

>>>>It's a slap in the face to tell someone that was abused or neglected or bullied most of their life that something is wrong with THEM. And not the people or environment that caused their trauma.

If any of this resonates with you, I hope you read my Holistic Nervous System healing post so you can get started on the healing journey:
